Fish Oil for Dog Arthritis

Can you use fish oil for dog arthritis? Absolutely! This amazing natural substance works wonders on humans, and does the same for dogs. Why should dogs be any different? However, a lot of people are genuinely surprised when they find out fish oil is an excellent treatment for dog arthritis. After all, cats eat fish, not dogs, right? Many pet parents balk at giving fish oil to their dogs because it doesn’t seem natural to them. In reality, however, dogs are omnivores, and fully equipped to eat just about anything (as any pet parent who’s ever seen Spot gobble up a plate of spaghetti!).

In nature, dogs eat a lot of raw meat, eggs, bones, greens, and yes….fish.  Most domesticated dogs today don’t get nearly the amount of nutritious food they should, because commercial dog food does not make up any part of a natural diet. It exists mainly for the convenience of humans who own dogs. With a lack of proper nutrition, dogs are susceptible to many of the same diseases humans get, such as diabetes, cancer, and arthritis.

Adding high-fat, oily fish or a good quality fish oil to your dog’s diet can make a big difference in how he feels, especially if he already has arthritis. In fact, studies have shown that fish oil significantly decreases the pain and stiffness of arthritis in dogs of all breeds. Just give your dog a daily dose of fish oil, and you’ll start seeing the results in a matter of weeks. Dogs that couldn’t get up on their own due to arthritis often start running around like puppies again once they’re on fish oil.

You can buy fish oil capsules at any health food store, and put the capsules into your dog’s food. If Fido won’t eat the capsules, get a liquid version and mix it in with his food each day. Just follow the dosing directions on the bottle, and you’ll soon see the benefits of fish oil for dog arthritis!
